Camps are typically activity based in an outdoor setting, and camp healthcare providers will benefit from this course to be better prepared to manage orthopedic alterations in the camp setting. Conditions and situations most common to the camp environment are highlighted to include soft tissue injury, fractures, casting and bracing, overuse injuries, limping, urgent and emergent conditions and chronic orthopedic conditions.

You may complete the lessons in any order. Once you register for this course you have 45 days to complete the course.

Your Instructors

Tracey Gaslin, PhD, CPNP, FNP-BC, CRNI, RN-BC

Dr. Gaslin completed her PhD in Educational and Organizational Leadership and taught for 10 years specializing in pediatric development, service leadership, and research on gratitude. Dr. Gaslin publishes the majority of her work in the areas of pediatrics, camp nursing, behavioral health, and service leadership and has co-authored several texts. She currently serves as the Executive Director for the Alliance for Camp Health where she travels and trains individuals regarding health services and wellbeing of youth and young adults. She continues to be an active speaker, writer, and publisher representing the Leading Voice in Camp Health to promote hope and healing in youth serving programs across the US and Canada.

Mary Marugg, RN, WFR

A founding director of Sonlight Camp in Southwest Colorado, Mary has 43+ years of living, working and directing both resident camp and wilderness treks. Connected with the Alliance for Camp Health since the early 1980’s Mary is currently the Director of Operations. She understands the challenges and opportunities of healthcare at camp today.  Encouraging healthy camp communities is a personal priority and dedication.
