Looking for feedback in defining when to complete an incident report in the camp environment. Currently, we state an incident report should be completed anytime more than basic first aid is rendered, camper requires emergency services personnel, damage to property, unplanned departure of camper, anything otherwise worth documenting.

Any advice for adding to or adjusting this definition would be greatly appreciated.

    Sincerely,

    Erik:

Great questions. Each camp approaches the use of incident reports (IRs) differently depending on their structure, operations, and populations served. Those camps that serve more critical campers tend to document IRs more readily. Those camps that serve physically healthy youth tend to be a little more lenient on the use of IRs. It seems like you have a well thought out plan for when to use your IR but as you know, staff may not remember the exact requirements. Therefore I use the language “when in doubt, fill it out”. If later you don’t think completing an IR is in line with your policy, then you can discard and have documentation in another location.

    Best to you
