I am looking for other ways of managing the night medication administration for meds that need to be given right before bed (clonidine, melatonin, desmopressin). Our historical process was to pass pills after roundup, about 9pm, but then the programming goes on for another 1-2 hours. Our struggle is that the late night programming puts the campers all over the campsite and finding campers if they don’t come to the clinic for HS meds is a struggle. Looking for other solutions as it doesn’t seem safe to give campers meds individually and then task them with taking it independently before bed (although they are 12-16yr olds). Any thoughts?

    Candi,

The challenge is real! You’ll have to check your state regulations, but an option may be to have staff members or counselors trained in Medication Administration, and the RN delegate to them to pass the meds in the cabins.

The joy of programming and the challenge of healthcare!

Our state does not require licensed individuals to dispense meds. We have many off time meds and have had challenges dispensing them. Level of maturity and accountability come in to play. We have tried giving the meds to the leaders at dinner. Would love to hear other ideas.
