I’m taking advanced pharmacology this summer and as always I keep my ears and eyes open for anything that can help me as a camp nurse. One of the instructors mentioned a medication called Emetrol as a medication for nausea. It’s an old med from the days of the soda fountains. It’s great because its mode of action decreases peristalsis and delays gastric emptying. And it does it physically so it doesn’t have anything like salicylates or other medications in it making it a good pedi med. Just wondering if anybody has this med in their stock meds and if you’ve used it. I’m interested in adding it to my standing delegated medical orders next summer as an option. https://emetrol.com/

Yes, I love it. Works for the first day jitters as well.

Thanks for sharing what you have learned. Emetrol is an “old school” drug but most folks have stopped using it due to its unpleasant side effect profile. It is a little concerning that when treating someone for nausea, they could experience fainting. Therefore, most folks have changed to nausea medications (zofran, phenergan) that appear to be safer overall.

    Emetrol Side Effects
    Fainting.
swelling of face, arms, and legs.
    unusual bleeding.
    vomiting.
    weight loss.
    yellow eyes or skin.
