Our camp offers healthcare (provider, RN, full clinic) for several of our programs, but we also offer our facilities to a multitude of groups free of charge (to bring access to nature to those who may not have it). Part of the rental group’s responsibility in exchange for the site use is they have to bring a CPR/First aid trained person and supplies for their group. Our operations team is on site/on call 24/7 to aid in all the potential emergencies (HVAC, animals, lost individual, vehicle issues, health crisis).
The health crisis becomes more challenging as we are located 1hr from a hospital and the EMS response time is 30 minutes. All of our operations team is first aid/CPR/AED certified but they are not mandated to aid a guest if they don’t feel comfortable. their main directive is to get EMS to the victim and assist the group’s on site healthcare individual.
As an organization, we are curious how other similar programs operate to keep their guests safe, limit liability, and ensure the on call staff aren’t being asked to cover too broad a range of things.
Thank you for any ideas/thoughts!
