Updating policies for Summer ’24. I don’t think we need a COVID policy any longer….what are you all doing? What does the Alliance for Camp Health and the CDC recommend for this summer?
    Thanks in advance!

we strongly recommend COVID vaccination with the most updated shot available but are not requiring it.

Jennifer, Thanks for opening good conversation regarding COVID policies for summer 2024. A couple areas for consideration, your regional health department and school guidance should be considered. A solid communicable disease plan is significant for managing COVID as well as other communicable diseases at camp.

From the CDC: “Schools and ECE programs should take a variety of actions every day to prevent the spread of infectious diseases, including the virus that causes COVID-19”
    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/k-12-childcare-guidance.html

ACH will keep members up to date for recommendations for summer camp 2024 as guidance is released closer to summer.

    Good conversation!

Last year we converted our covid policy to a more broad communicable disease plan. Within that, we broadened the policy to include flu, strep, and other communicable diseases and how we would treat them. The policy is not very drilled down in details for any of them, but references current practice recommendations. This allowed us to pivot if CDC changed things, which they didn’t a lot. We had a ton more strep last year and actually no covid. Flu was also in the region, but we didn’t have a positive screen for that during camp.

This policy approach worked really well for us last year.

Thank you all! Such good info. We treated it as a communicable disease and followed our plans but didn’t do testing. I’ll wait until closer to summer and make our policy very broad. Thanks again.
