Advancing Lyme Disease Education, Awareness, and Prevention for Summer Leaders

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOUISVILLE, KY — [March 7, 2025] — Ticks don’t stop where the trail ends, and neither should our efforts to protect kids. With Lyme disease cases increasing across most of the US, according to the CDC, and nearly half a million cases being treated and newly diagnosed each year  , the need for education, prevention, and action has never been greater. That’s why the Alliance for Camp Health (ACH) and SC Johnson are doubling down on their commitment to keeping kids safe outdoors with an expanded Fight the Bite initiative.

After a successful first year, SC Johnson is expanding its support for ACH’s Fight the Bite program with a $282,500 investment—accelerating momentum and increasing impact. This support will bring essential tick-borne disease prevention resources to more camps, staff, youth-serving programs, and families, creating safer summers and healthier communities.

What’s Ahead in Year Two?

  • More Camps, More Impact – Expanding to 50 camps, training 3,500 summer staff, and protecting 25,000 children from tick exposure.
  • New Tools for Families & Staff – Introducing a Caregiver Education Tool and a Transition of Care Kit to make tick prevention and early detection easier.
  • Medical Training & Validation – Partnering with 40-60 pediatric healthcare providers to strengthen early diagnosis and treatment pathways.
  • Expanded Midwest Activation – Bringing Fight the Bite to camps across Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, and Missouri—expanding from its Wisconsin pilot.

A Call to Action for Camps & Caregivers

“Lyme disease is stealthy—it’s easy to miss a tick bite, and even easier to underestimate the risk,” said Tracey Gaslin, CEO of ACH. “But the good news is, prevention works. With SC Johnson’s support, we’re taking Fight the Bite even further, making sure camps, healthcare providers, and families have the tools they need to keep kids safe.”

Camps, youth serving programs, caregivers, and healthcare professionals looking to join the movement can sign up for updates and FREE resources at Fight the Bite.
